What heat pump rebates can Stratford homeowners still claim?

As of October 2026, Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program pays Stratford homeowners by the fuel they heat with today: up to $7,500 for a qualifying cold-climate air-source heat pump (up to $12,000 for ground-source) in homes heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood, and up to $2,000 ($3,000 ground-source) in homes heated with Enbridge natural gas. Pre-approval through a participating contractor is mandatory before installation. The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program closed to applications on July 31, 2026. Home Renovation Savings Program (Ontario)

Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program pays by your current heating fuel. Homes heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood get $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500, for a cold-climate air-source heat pump (up to $12,000 for ground-source). Homes heated with Enbridge natural gas get $500 per ton, up to $2,000 ($3,000 for ground-source). Equipment must be NRCan-qualified, pre-approval through a participating contractor is mandatory before installation, and no home energy assessment is required.

Worth $2,000–$12,000

How to actually apply

Ontario Home Renovation Savings (heat pump stream)

  1. Complete the short eligibility form on the program site (homerenovationsavings.ca → heat pumps).
  2. Choose a participating contractor from the program directory. Contractor registrations are currently paused — you must pick one already enrolled.
  3. Your contractor submits a pre-installation application. Approval is mandatory before any work begins — installing first disqualifies the rebate.
  4. Install (equipment must be on NRCan's qualified products list).
  5. Contractor files the post-installation application; your cheque arrives within 60 days of approval.

No home energy assessment is required for the heat-pump stream. Note: natural-gas-heated (Enbridge) homes qualify for smaller amounts — up to $2,000 air-source / $3,000 ground-source.

Federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA): closed

The federal oil-to-heat-pump grant closed to new applications on July 31, 2026. Households already approved have until January 31, 2027 to upload their documents. Oil-heated homes still get the higher Ontario rebate tier above.
