Frequently asked questions

Who installs heat pumps in Stratford?

Three shops physically based in Stratford passed our verification on July 16, 2026: Bick Heating and Cooling (Church Street, family-run since 2013, 4.7 stars across 63 Google reviews), Buchanan & Hall (Wright Boulevard, since 1950, the region's geothermal specialist), and Dave Davies (Frederick Street, Lennox Premier Dealer since 1991). For the Ontario rebate you must use a program-registered contractor and get pre-installation approval before work starts.

Is geothermal (ground-source) a realistic option near Stratford?

Yes — more than in most markets. Buchanan & Hall has installed ground-source systems in the region since the 1980s and is IGSHPA-listed, and rural Perth County acreages have the land a loop field needs. Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $12,000 for qualifying ground-source systems (verified July 2026).

What heat pump rebates can Ontario homeowners get right now?

Two verified programs (checked against official pages July 15, 2026): Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump and up to $12,000 for ground-source; the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program adds up to $10,000 for oil-heated homes with household income at or below the regional median — and its application deadline is July 31, 2026.

Does a heat pump work in an Ontario winter?

Modern cold-climate models are built for it — they're rated to well below -20°C and are the standard the Ontario and federal rebate programs fund. The rebates require a model on Natural Resources Canada's qualified products list, which is effectively a built-in quality floor.

Do I need ductwork for a heat pump?

No. If your house has forced-air ducts, a central heat pump swaps in relatively simply. If it heats with a boiler or baseboards, ductless mini-splits (one or more wall heads) are the usual fit — both styles qualify for the rebates if the model is NRCan-listed.
