What actually fixes hard, smelly, or iron-stained well water?

Verified facts only · one introduction, your pick · fees disclosed first

Hi — I'm the CompareLocal assistant. Ask me anything about metal roofs, heat pumps, or well water around Woodstock. I only cite facts we've verified first-hand, and if you ever want a vendor introduction, it goes to exactly one company — the one you pick. How can I help?

Frequently asked questions

Is St. Thomas on wells or municipal water?

Both, depending where you are. The city itself drinks treated Lake Erie water via the Elgin Area Primary Water Supply System (plant near Port Stanley), so hard-well problems are mostly a rural story here — homes outside city limits in Southwold, Central Elgin, Malahide, and Bayham commonly run private wells where softeners and iron filters earn their keep. Lake Erie water can also carry seasonal algae taste-and-odour episodes (the city issued a safe-to-drink advisory in March 2025), which point-of-use carbon filtration addresses.

What does a whole-home water treatment system cost in Canada?

From vendor pages verified July 15, 2026: Canadian-retail options run about $1,330–$1,360 CAD (Aquatell's Fleck 5600SXT softener and Atmos-AIO iron/sulphur filter), while the big US brands list from about $1,331–$3,498 USD — before cross-border shipping, duty, and exchange, and several don't ship to Canada at all. Our systems-compared page has the full table.

Do American water-treatment brands ship to Canada?

Mostly no, unclear, or manual-only — of the big names we verified in July 2026, Aquasana explicitly ships to Canada; SpringWell and US Water Systems don't state Canadian shipping or limit free shipping to the lower 48 US states; and Crystal Quest requires customers outside the US mainland to place orders manually by email or phone (verified July 16, 2026). Canadian retailers like Aquatell sell equivalent equipment in CAD with domestic support.
